I agree with you (although it seems some friends think I should have an expensive wedding and gown). I plan on going with a cheap, elegant, and beautiful prom dress because most of them look like wedding gowns anyway. I could get a dress like that for 40-60 dollars. I also plan on self-serve food. I will be serving various pastas. It is delicious and inexpensive. I told my fiance (with much convincing) that I did not need an engagement ring. I even told him to just make me one out of beads or a woven fabric one. The important thing isn't the ring or how big of a diamond or wedding. The most important thing s, I am marrying my best-friend and an amazing and wonderful man. Besides the fact, I am a simple girl, raised on a farm. I may just have the reception in my backyard to save on costs. Plus, it is quite beautiful in the Spring time with all the flowers and trees. For wedding presents (if I can afford them), I plan on handing out baby trees or lilies. I looked at Party City and they have elegant and gorgeous table settings and decor at a more than reasonable price. Plus, they often have sales. I can get my friends and family to pitch in with helping to decorate.

Your blog/input has made me feel better with going for an inexpensive wedding. Thank you.

Agreed. Wedding costs are outrageous. My wife and I did a destination wedding to avoid the $50k hole a local wedding would have put us in. We zoomed off to Mexico, made it a nice vacation with our family and friends. It was an awesome day that I will never forget!

I completely agree that a good wedding doesn't have to be an expensive one! There are plenty of times I've been to a wedding that must of cost a fortune but that hasn't made it fun.

The most important thing is to set a wedding budget early on and stick to it.
