Any product sold and not purchased is hardly ever a good idea to buy (monster cables anyone?) and annuities are ripe for unscrupulous agents recommendations. It's not uncommon for agents to sell an annuity to a 90 year old that essentially locks up the money until they are 130 years old - sound fair? Everyone should be cautious with the fine print associated with annuities and for the most part, they really aren't that great of investments. I agree, annuities are rarely a good idea. And any person recommending them that is paid on commission I would be very wary of. The fees are high and allow the insurance companies to pay large commissions and as we know many people are influence by what they are paid - which is why the insurance companies offer such large payouts. Annuities, and specifically equity index annuities, are one of the great financial ripoffs sold to the uninformed.

I am weary of financial advisers, period.

I agree that annuities are often overpriced products that are not necessarily right for everyone.
