Thanks for addressing my question. I have been waiting for a long time for the government to actually do something about "dead beat" parents. This gives me hope. Hey guys! Hank invited me to stop by, and I’m glad I did. This is fascinating!

I never thought about the legal angle to this tax rebate situation. But it’s true that you have to file to be eligible for a stimulus check. I think Hank’s right that it might help catch some people who wouldn’t otherwise file a tax return. Heck, the government doesn’t even have proper addresses for some people. But they’ll sure put their address down correctly, to make sure the check arrives!

The child support angle is difficult. I think tax returns are supposed to go for back child support, but I’m no expert there. I’m sure your state’s child support enforcement agency could provide a clear answer to that question.
